Definition: The assignor is the party transferring a right or interest to another party through an assignment.
Example
When a buyer permissibly assigns purchase rights to a replacement buyer, the original buyer is the assignor.
Keep the distinction clear
Transferring rights does not by itself release the assignor from existing obligations. A release or novation is a separate issue, and the agreement may restrict assignment.
