Definition: An agreement that has no legal effect as a contract because it lacks an essential legal requirement or has an unlawful purpose.
Example
An agreement to perform an illegal act cannot create an enforceable contractual duty to perform that act.
Keep the distinction clear
Void means ineffective from the outset. Voidable describes a contract that an entitled party may choose to avoid; unenforceable describes a different obstacle to judicial enforcement.
