Definition: A roof form with two main sloping surfaces meeting at a ridge, creating a triangular gable at each end. The gable is the triangular wall area beneath those slopes.
Example
A house has a central roof ridge and triangular end walls facing the front and back yards.
Keep the distinction clear
A hip roof slopes down on its ends as well as its sides. Roof shape alone does not establish condition, storm resistance, or remaining life.
