Definition: An area mapped as subject to inundation by the flood with a 1% chance of occurring in any given year.
Example
A parcel is located in a mapped high-risk flood zone and requires review of floodplain and insurance requirements.
Keep the distinction clear
The term sometimes called a 100-year flood does not mean flooding occurs only once a century. Properties outside an SFHA can also flood.
