Captions can help you follow spoken lessons. Check the video player's controls for a captions or CC option first. If the player does not offer captions, your browser or device may be able to generate them.
Chrome on a Windows computer or Mac
In Chrome, open the three-dot menu and go to Settings → Accessibility. Enable Live Caption, then return to your lesson and play the audio. If an automatically playing video does not produce captions, turn its volume on.
Linux and Chromebook menus differ. Follow Google's Chrome caption instructions for your operating system.
Supported Android phones
Search your phone's Settings for Live Caption and enable it if available. You can also look for the caption control in the expanded volume controls. Device, language, and app support vary; not every Android phone or media app supports this feature. See Google's Android Live Caption guide.
Supported iPhones
On iPhone 11 or later, look under Settings → Accessibility → Live Captions. Enable the feature and select iPhone Audio when captioning audio played on your phone. Availability depends on your language, region, and software. See Apple's current Live Captions instructions.
If captions are missing or inaccurate
- Confirm the lesson is playing and that the caption feature is enabled for the device you are using.
- Check the manufacturer's guide above for device and language support. The setting may be unavailable on your device.
- Automatic captions can mishear legal terms, names, and numbers. Check important details against your course materials and ask your instructor about unclear wording.
If these options do not meet your learning needs, contact TSRE support. Include the course, lesson, device, browser or app, and the captioning issue so we can review available assistance.
